CherryHill Orchards’ Blossom Festival

As much as it is iconic in Japan, you don’t need to travel that far to experience the splendour of cherry blossom season.

Imagine up to 25,000 snow white, petalled trees in bloom in the Yarra Valley, at one of Australia’s foremost orchards.

Now, stop imagining it and organise a visit to CherryHill Orchards in Wandin East before the end of the month, for cherry blossom season is but fleetingly short.

Take it from me that it is inspiring to see row after row of neatly manicured trees in pristine surroundings take on a decidedly Spring hue.

I was left in awe. Words other than “isn’t nature wonderful” all but failed me when I first set eyes upon the breathtaking scene.

In a couple of months, it will be time to pick and eat the mouthwatering, flavoursome, rich, red cherries – another treat in these unspoiled surrounds.

But for now, the wonderment is in nature’s gift of the blooms.

And this year, it conveniently falls during the school holidays, so visitors are invited to pack a picnic and take in the ambiance on expansive lawns.

At the same time, partake in CherryHill’s extensive cherry offerings at the onsite store.

I speak of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks – Cherry Spritz, Seltzer, Cider, Cherry Vodka, Cherry Liqueur and Blossom Gin.

That is not to overlook delicious cherry and cherry chocolate ice-cream.

Food trucks serving all manner of tasty treats are also on hand for the complete, delectable savoury and sweet experience.

On the weekend, there are also market stalls displaying arts and crafts, along with live entertainment, while during the week children are admitted free.

They can get their faces painted, enjoy story time, go on a scavenger hunt and enjoy lawn games.

And furry friends are welcome too.
