One of the greatest singer songwriters of all time, Paul McCartney is a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – as a Beatle and as a solo artist.

Now, a fine tribute band takes us through a career that has celebrated many highs.

With such a prolific repertoire from which to choose, it is really a question of what to leave out.

If you include medleys, the Music Legends manage well in excess of 30.

Among them are those McCartney wrote for the Beatles.

There is Love Me Do, I Saw Her Standing There, Can’t Buy Me Love, Yesterday, Michelle, Blackbird, Your Mother Should Now and Let It Be.

And who can forget Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, Back in the USSR and Ob-la-di Ob-la-da?

Then there are the songs McCartney wrote for Wings, including Band on the Run and Mull of Kintyre, not to overlook his tunes as a solo artist.

From acoustic numbers to catchy, melodic tunes, this show covers a large number.

A warm and convivial atmosphere from the get go encourages us – the audience – to sing along, from time to time.

There is no pretence about the Music Legends, just some decent blokes with regular jobs and amazing musicality who know how to deliver a good time.

Leading from the front is a man who has a most impressive vocal range and can replicate the sound of many leading performers.

I speak of James van Cuylenburg, who also tickles the ivories and plays guitar and, at one point, the accordion.

Songs with high pitched notes are frequently the domain of another lead vocalist, who provides back up on other tracks. Josh McDonald nails it and is adept on guitar.

So, too, Paul Davies, who is not only a maestro on guitar, but takes the lead on some beautiful numbers and is another back up vocalist.

A special guest performer with depth and gravitas is James’ father, Eric, who steps onto the stage for a couple of songs.

Helping Music Legends produce their melodic sound with stunning harmonies are Shane Cole-Hay on bass and drummer Steve Gijsbers.

Add in a few stories about Paul McCartney and you have a wonderful couple of hours of entertainment that is reflective and redolent.

The Music Legends tour.
